Calculate one shift or a split workday
Start with Quick Hours for one shift. Enter a clock-in and clock-out time, then add only the unpaid minutes that should be deducted. The result keeps the exact elapsed minutes before showing hours and minutes or decimal hours.
For a split workday, add another shift instead of combining the time span. That prevents a long unpaid gap between shifts from being counted as work.
Worked example
A shift from 8:30 AM to 5:15 PM lasts 8 hours 45 minutes. With a 30-minute unpaid lunch, worked time is 8 hours 15 minutes, or 8.25 decimal hours.
Common uses
- Checking a single shift
- Adding split-shift totals
- Converting a completed shift to decimal hours
- Verifying a time-clock record

Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate hours worked between clock-in and clock-out?
Enter the start and end time for a completed shift. The calculator finds the elapsed minutes, then subtracts any unpaid break minutes you enter.
How do I calculate a split shift?
Add another shift to the same day and enter each clock-in and clock-out pair separately. The calculator totals the completed, non-overlapping shifts.
How are overnight hours calculated?
When the end time is earlier than the start, the calculator treats the end as occurring on the following day.
Should I enter paid breaks?
Paid breaks remain part of worked time. Leave unpaid break minutes at zero unless the break should be deducted.
Can I see decimal hours?
Yes. Open Options and select Decimal or Both under Display totals.
